Project Specs:

The iconic dome structure of Al Wasl Plaza at the Expo 2020 Dubai provided the largest 360-degree projection surface in the world, offering visitors an unparalleled experience.

The name Al Wasl means ‘connection’ in Arabic, and hence, Al Wasl Plaza was designed to work as the central core of the entire Expo 2020 site, connecting the three Thematic Districts, and providing a focal point for visitors throughout the six-month event.

Enclosing a space of 724,000 cubic metres and standing 67.5 metres tall, the 130-metre-wide domed steel trellis encircles the Al Wasl Plaza, a structure that was featured at the heart of Expo 2020 and became Dubai’s newest iconic landmark along with the largest 360-degree projection surface in the world.

2,664 SACO V-Pix S fixtures were integrated into the steel structure by 3S to complement projection mapping. They work on two modes, legacy, controlled by a Disguise system which plays a range of starry lighting effects and event mode that is integrated into the digital projection system to match the projection content.

This collaboration with Expo 2020 and 3S has been a truly transformative experience,  the SACO LED video lighting system seamlessly integrates with the unique architecture, accentuating its striking design and making it a shining symbol of unity and progress. To contribute our expertise in LED video lighting to illuminate the Al Wasl Dome, the beating heart of this remarkable event, is a privilege that will forever inspire us.

Al Wasl Plaza can be found in the centre of Expo City Dubai, connecting the Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability districts.
