Emaar Properties Dubai, the premiere real estate developer in the UAE, and owner/operator of Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, created an initiative to light up the East façade of the iconic tower and give it high resolution video capability across the entire height of the tower. Emaar tasked SACO to design and create a system that would seamlessly integrate within the architecture of the building. Burj Khalifa has a very interesting geometry, and viewing angles needed to be carefully calculated to provide the best view from around the building, but at the same time needed to not be disruptive to the residents and hotel guests of the building. In order to address this challenge, SACO designed 6 different carrier angles for its V-Stick. The result is a clean, non-disruptive installation that will achieve its mission for the years to come.

AWARD WINNING

The LED screen running down the east side of the 828-metre-tall tower was unveiled at the “Light Up 2018” New Year’s Celebration captivating millions of viewers, both live and via live internet broadcasts across the world. The ground-breaking lightshow established a new Guinness World Record for the largest light and sound show on a single building. For 2019, over 1 million people flocked to downtown Dubai for the “Emaar NYE 2019” show, which earned two additional Guinness World Records for the largest LED-illuminated façade and the tallest LED-illuminated façade.

SACO won the Best Design Award at the 2019 Middle East Lighting Design Summit for the media façade concept and integration using SACO’s Shockwave V-Stick and custom components.

SACO also won the Architectural SSL Innovation Awards for most innovative use of SSL for creating the tallest media facade on the planet at Burj Khalifa in Dubai using its Shockwave V-Stick technology.
